RIC Sky retire the numbers of two players
The RIC Sky retired the numbers 20 and 22 in honor of Ella and Hope Chafee, members of the very first women's wheelchair basketball team in Chicago in 1980.

Lakeshore Foundation, 11/406 - 11/5/06
RIC Express picked up its first victory of the season during a tournament hosted by the University of Alabama at the Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, November 4th and 5th. Express beat the Dallas Movin’ Mavs 48 – 41. Two high schoolers were Express’s leading scorers. Shawna Culp (Wheaton-Warrenville South) led Express with 22 points on 10 field goals and 2 free throws and rookie Becca Murray (Germantown High School) chipped in 14. Dallas’s Lorraine Gonzalez led all scorers with 25 points.
Express played valiantly, but dropped 3 games during the tournament. The first loss came at the hands of the Sparks 53 – 28. Facing a line-up comprised of 4 Canadian National Team members, the 2006 world champions, was an Express line-up featuring only two starters from last season’s successes. Six Express players scored as Culp canned a team – leading 14 points. Sparks had 3 players in double figures. Chantel Benoit led all scorers with 18 points, followed by Danielle Peers (17) and Lucy Scade (10).
The second loss was to the University of Alabama, 46 – 34. Murray scored 12 points for the Express. Culp canned 9 points and Sooz Haddick picked up 7 points. Alabama’s Stephanie Wheeler led all with 14 points.
The third loss was payback from Dallas. Haddick and Culp scored 10 points each, yet couldn’t match Gonzalez’s 21 points, the game’s leading scorer. Express lost by 3 points, 39 – 36.
Vs University of Illinois 10/28/06 - 10/29/06
Missing three of their starters from last year the Express took their young juniors to the University of Illinois for a three game weekend. The Express lost the first game 52 to 37 with Becca Murrey scoring 10 points, Mina Mojtahedi 8, and Sue Haddick and Shawna Culp each with 6. In the second game of the day the U of I won 57 to 32 with Shawna Culp scoring 11 and Sue Haddick 6. In the final game of the weekend the U of I won 54 to 25 with Shawna Culp scoring 8 and Sue Haddick 6 points. The Express expect to improve as the season advances and the team learns to work together.
