In their fourth (and last) game of the 28th NWWBT the RIC EXPRESS played for fifth (place out of 10 teams) against the Orlando Ice who had beaten them twice during the winter season. After leading 3-2 the Express fell behind by 10 points at the first quarter mark.At half-time Orlando lead 25-14 with tall Amy Verst Scoring 16 points on 8 of 10 shooting. Final Score: 45-31 in favor of Orlando. Sue Haddick scored 23 points. Her scoring average was 20 points per game. The highest of all players in the tournament. She was rewarded for her constant devotion to the game and team by being voted Most Improved Player

The Univ. of ILL continued their domination of the RIC Express
by holding them scoreless for the first 14 min. of play enroute to an easy 65-25
victory. Highscorer for Chicago, as usual, was Sue Haddick with 17 points.
In their third game of the tourney against the tall Lady Texans, the express
trailed the entire game by as much as nine points at 4-13. But they tied the
game at 17 shortly before half-time. The second half the score remained
close, at times within one point, until Texas went on a three minute scoring
spree(8-2) to put themselves comfortably ahead. Texas won 49-38 .High scorer for
the game was Sue Haddick with 20. Ella Chafee had 8. The loss put the
express into the fifth/sixth place game on Saturday, the same position they were
in at the 2001 Nationals.

In the first game of the
28th NWWBT played at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesvile, Fl, the RIC
Express sscored the first basket of the game but fell behind immediately and
trailed 15-20 at halfime. At the 3/4 mark, they were down by 7pts at 21-28.
Richmond (Va Beach Lady SunWheelers) lost their ball handler point guard
who fouled out with seven minutes to play . Express coach Jim Taylor
Instituted a full court press and the RIC Ladies held the Lady Sunwheelers to a
single basket the rest of the way while scoring 13 p oints to win 34-30
andvances to the winners bracket. High scorer was Sue Haddick with 20pts.
on 7-19 shooting from the field and 6-9 from the free throws especially with 3-4
in the last 3 minutes of the game when the Express finally took their
final lead. Tomorrow morning the team plays their Illinois nemisis U of I in
hopes of advancing.
